About the radiant cut

Where it comes from

The radiant was created by the cutter Henry Grossbard in the late 1970s; GIA dates it to 1977. He took the outline of an emerald cut and gave it brilliant faceting underneath, joining two families of cut in one stone. He patented it in the US in 1985 as a "step-cut stone which has been brilliantized".

What it suits

Anyone who loves the shape of an emerald cut but wants more sparkle. Its cut corners make it sturdy, so it's a good choice for everyday wear. It suits a solitaire, a halo, or a pair of side stones, and its rectangle lengthens the finger.

In moissanite

The radiant is one of the liveliest cuts in moissanite. Its brilliant facets catch the stone's fire, so you get rainbow flashes inside a crisp rectangular outline. It hides small inclusions better than an emerald cut, but its corners can show colour in a lower grade. Ours are all DEF.

Sizes

Questions

Radiant or emerald cut?
Same outline. The radiant sparkles; the emerald cut shows long, calm flashes.
Radiant or princess?
A princess is square with sharp corners. A radiant is usually rectangular, with cut corners that are harder to chip.
Is a radiant good for everyday wear?
Yes. Its cut corners have no fine points to knock.
