About the cushion cut
Where it comes from
The cushion is one of the oldest brilliant shapes. Rounded-square brilliants were common by the early 1700s. Its forerunner, the old mine cut, was the most popular cut until the late 1800s. The name comes from Brazil's mines, which became the "old mines" once diamonds were found in South Africa. Today's cushion keeps that soft square outline, with modern facets for more sparkle.
What it suits
It has a vintage, romantic feel, and it's at home in a halo, a three-stone ring or on its own with four claws. Its rounded corners make it a good everyday stone: nothing sharp to catch on knits or chip against a counter.
In moissanite
The cushion's large facets break light into big, bold flashes rather than fine glitter, and in moissanite those flashes carry plenty of colour. A cushion holds colour in its corners, so a warmer stone would show it there. Every SOLA cushion is DEF colourless.
Sizes
